The Government of India has launched electronic Overseas Citizen of India (e-OCI) Cards in lieu of physical OCI cards for the new applicants and existing OCI card holding physical booklets.  

2.      The following are the useful points with regard to e-OCI cards :

a) e-OCI card has been launched on 30.06.2026 for the new applicants and existing OCI card holding physical booklets. 

b) The new e-OCI card incorporates enhanced security features and has been integrated with all the Immigration Check Posts (ICPs).

c) The holder of e-OCI card will need not carry the physical copy of the OCI card at the time of Immigration Clearance and for availing other services. 
d) The e-OCI card can be downloaded by login into OCI portal (https://ociservices.gov.in ) and through the official ‘Indian Visa Su Swagatam” mobile app. 

e) The physical booklets shall continue to remain valid and shall be accepted for immigration and other associated services. 

3.      It is informed that now onwards, only digital OCI card (e-OCI) will be issued to all new OCI applicants as well as existing physical booklet OCI Card holders. 

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) – e-OCI Card.

1. Passport/Visa requirements for entry into Peru

   All Indian nationals planning to enter Peru may ensure that their passports are valid for at least 06(six) months on the day of entry into Peru. This is the prescribed requirement, besides having a valid visa to enter Peru, for being permitted to enter Peru by the Immigration Authorities. There have been instances where Indian sea crew members were not allowed to deboard their ship and enter Peru as their passports were valid for less than 6 months.

   As regards visas, it may be noted that Indian nationals need to have one of the following visas/residence permits to enter Peru:

   Valid Peruvian visa; OR

   • Visa of the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, or a Schengen visa with a validity of more than 6 months from the intended date of entry into Peru.

   • Permanent residence permit of the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, or a Schengen permanent residence permit.

   Important Information on Visa Validity: Visas issued by the Peruvian government are valid for six (06) months, counted from the date they were issued. Once this term expires, if a visa has not been used by its holder, it automatically expires. Upon the first entry of the visa holder to Peru, visas will have the same validity as the period of permanence shown in the endorsement.    2. TRANSIT VISA REQUIRED
      • Effective from February 1, 2025, Indian nationals with ordinary passports making a connection or stopover in Peruvian territory will be required to obtain a valid Transit visa. However, this condition does not apply for those having valid visas / permanent residencies as detailed below:-
      • (i) If they have visa valid for a minimum of six (6) months from any one or more of the following countries: USA, Canada, UK, Australia, or any Schengen area country at the time of entry into Peru.
      • (ii) If they hold permanent residence in any one of the following countries: USA, Canada, UK, Australia, or any Schengen area country.
      • All Indian nationals planning to enter Peru may ensure that their passports are valid for more than 6(six) months on the day of entry into Peru. This is the prescribed requirement, besides having a valid visa to enter Peru, for being permitted to enter Peru by the Immigration Authorities. There have been instances where Indian nationals visiting Peru for tourism or other purposes were not allowed entry into Peru as their passports were valid for less than 6 months.

   
   ADVISORY

   It has been observed on multiple occasions that the Indian passports have been used as an advertising platform by many unscrupulous travel agents, defacing the cover of the passport by pasting their agency/  company´s stickers. This is also in contravention of Government of India´s guidelines in this regard.
   2. All passport holders are therefore requested to ensure that their passports are not defaced by the travel agents or any other person or establishment at any time.
