Vishvas Vidu Sapkal


          Shri Vishvas Vidu Sapkal joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1998. He holds Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Electronics from Walchand Engineering College, Shivaji University Kolhapur, Maharashtra, India.

          Shri Sapkal arrived in Lima on 30 June 2023 and assumed his assignment as Ambassador of India to Peru.

          In his previous assignments, Shri Sapkal served as High Commissioner of India to “Fiji, Cook Islands, Kiribati, Nauru, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu”, Consul General of India, St. Petersburg (Russia). He also served in different capacities in Moscow (Russia), Yerevan (Armenia), Chicago (USA) and Cairo (Egypt).

          Shri Sapkal has done Special Assignments at India Africa Forum Summit as Director (IAFS) in New Delhi in November 2015;  Chief Coordinator for 12th World Hindi Conference, Fiji in February 2023; Chief Liaison Officer - 3rd Summit of “Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC)”, Papua New Guinea in May 2023.

          In the Ministry of External Affairs, Shri Sapkal had worked in Northern Division, MER Division and Finance Division in various capacities. He was Joint Secretary (BIMSTEC, SAARC and NALANDA) in May-November 2019. He was Joint Secretary (South) from November 2019- June 2023. He also worked as Joint Secretary (Indo-Pacific) from August 2021 to January 2022.

          Shri Sapkal earlier worked in Indian Information Service (IIS) and as  Lecturer in ‘PVPIT Engineering College, Budhgaon, Sangli’ Maharashtra, ‘Walchand College of Engineering, Sangli’ Maharashtra. He also worked as Engineer in Maharashtra Electronic Corporation (MELTRON), Nagpur, Maharashtra.

          Shri Sapkal is married to Mrs. Anita and they have two Sons.
