Advisory on traveling: with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) Card



It has been brought to the notice of the Consulate that OCI cardholders transiting through a third country have been denied permission to board flight to India as these OCI cardholders were not carrying their old passport bearing its number in the OCI card.



  1. In view of the above, it is once again reiterated that it is mandatory to carry both old and new passports in case the OCI cardholders are traveling on the strength of OCI card bearing old passport number in it



  1. The OCI guidelines on renewal, which have been in force since 2005 are as follows:
    • OCI card is required to be re-issued each time a new passport is acquired by the cardholder up to the age of 20 years.
    • OCI card is required to be re-issued once on acquiring a new passport after completing 50 years of age.



  1. Government of India has given extension in time till June 30, 2021 to get the OCI cards re-issued in accordance with above guidelines.
